Flash Promotions: Turn Browsers into Buyers Instantly

In the fast-paced world of online ordering, capturing a customer's attention at the right moment can significantly boost your conversion rates. Flash Promotions are designed to do just that—engage hesitant customers with timely offers and encourage them to complete their orders before they bounce.

What Are Flash Promotions?

Flash Promotions are time-sensitive pop-up offers that appear when a customer pauses during their online ordering journey. For example, if a guest lingers on your storefront without taking action, a message might appear saying:
“Still deciding? Add FREE fries to your cart while you wait.”

The guest has 20 seconds to accept the offer before it disappears. It’s a simple, effective nudge that has proven to lift conversion rates by up to 20% for early adopters.

What’s the Offer?

The promotional item is a free product from your menu, selected during setup. This item is given away at no charge to the customer, with the cost covered by your business.
But with the added conversions and higher order volumes, the return more than makes up for it. In fact, P’Nut Street Noodles saw a clear return on investment when they offered free roti as their timed incentive.

After a certain amount of time with no action on the storefront, a user will be offered a promotional item or discount to add to their cart if they act within a certain amount of time.

For example, a pop-up appears that says, “Still deciding? Add FREE fries to your cart while you wait.” The pop-up appears on the screen for 20 seconds, after which the offer disappears.

There are two ways to configure this feature: an Advanced and a Quick Start method.

How to Set Up Flash Promotions

There are two ways to set up Flash Promotions: Quick Start and Advanced Settings.

Quick Start Method

  1. Navigate to Flash Promotions:
    Go to Website > Flash Promotions in the MOBI Admin Menu.

  2. Enable Quick Start:
    Toggle the Quick Start switch in the top-right corner of the Flash Promotions card.

  3. Name Your Promotion:
    This is the guest-facing message. Examples include:

    • “Finish your order and grab FREE garlic bread.”

    • “Still deciding? You’ve unlocked a free drink.”

    • “Don’t go—grab free fries while you wait.”

  4. Select Locations:
    Choose the stores where this promotion will be active.

  5. Choose a Promotional Item:
    MOBI’s AI will suggest 3 items based on upsell popularity, value, and profitability. You can choose one of these. For full control over product selection, see Advanced Settings below.

  6. Finalise and Save:
    To activate your Flash Promotions hit the save button and you'll see your active promotion.

FAQ’s

 

Q: What prevents a customer from only ordering the free item?
A: A minimum spend is required to unlock the promotion. This threshold is based on your brand’s average order value. Guests must reach that spend in order to complete checkout with the free item in their cart.


Q: Can I change the promotional product?
A: In Quick Start, you can choose from AI-suggested items. To select a custom product, contact our team to configure this in Advanced Settings.


Q: When does the Flash Promotion appear to the guest?
A: The promotion triggers when a customer is inactive or pausing on your online storefront. It’s designed to appear at that “should I order?” moment.


Q: How long does the promotion stay on screen?
A: The default duration is 20 seconds. To adjust this timing, contact the MOBI team to make changes via Advanced Settings.


Q: What happens if the customer doesn’t meet the minimum spend?
A: The promotion won’t be applied at checkout. This ensures you're only giving away an item when a full, qualifying order is placed.


Q: Can I offer a discount instead of a completely free item?
A: Yes. You can change the voucher value from 100% to any discount level in the Voucher Settings.


Q: Do customers just automatically get the free item added to their cart?
A: No—the guest must actively accept the promotion within the 20-second window for it to be added. Then, their cart must meet the minimum spend to complete the checkout. You’re never giving away free food unless they’re making a full purchase.


Q: Can I target specific customer segments?
A: Not through Quick Start. If you want to target groups like new guests or loyalty members, contact us to set this up via Advanced Settings.


Q: Can I schedule when Flash Promotions are active?
A: Not in Quick Start. If you want your promotion to run only during certain times or days, we can configure this for you through Advanced Settings.


Q: Can I run multiple Flash Promotions at once?
A: We recommend only running one at a time to keep the message clear and measure performance accurately. Multi-promo setups can be configured with support from our team.


Q: How do I access Advanced Settings for Flash Promotions?
A: Advanced Settings include full control over product selection, timer duration, scheduling, and audience targeting. These are currently managed by the MOBI team. If you’d like to explore these options, contact us at help@mobihq.com.


Q: How do I disable a Quick Start Flash Promotion?
A: Just toggle the switch off in the configuration panel. Easy on, easy off.
