Setting up Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

Data analytics is a game-changer. Any brand, small or large, can use it to improve processes, marketing strategies & find ways to grow their customer base to inevitably get a bigger piece of the proverbial pie.

GA4 is one of the best ways for an online business to track customer events & behaviours. The key to success is understanding & interpreting the data into an action plan to ensure you are meeting your customer's expectations. By jumping on the analytics train, you're starting the journey to find that competitive edge.

What is GA4?

GA4 is a free web analytics service by Google that provides statistics and basic analytical tools for search engine optimisation (SEO) and marketing purposes. The service is available to anyone with a Google (Gmail) account - also free.

MOBI’s GA4 Integration

MOBI integrates directly with GA4 so you can gain key insights into how your customers are using your website when they order online. This means you can find out how your menu items are performing, track your sales and view crucial shopping behaviour, like where customers are dropping off in the check-out process.

Events included:

  • set_location
  • view_category
  • view_menu
  • edit_product
  • view_item
  • add_to_cart
  • remove_from_cart
  • begin_checkout
  • purchase
  • order_confirmed
  • start_payment
  • save_credit_card
  • sign_up
  • payment_online
  • dietary_filter

How to set it up

It’s super easy to set up the GA4 integration.

  1. Sign in to your Google account. If you don’t have a Google account, it’s easy as pie to create one. Just follow these instructions.
  2. Continue with these instructions to create a GA4 Property, and add a Data Stream
Now you have a GA4 account!
  3. Once you’ve created your data stream, copy the Measurement ID that will appear.
  4. Go to your head office settings page (https://www.mobi2go.com/admin/headoffice/<insert_headoffice_id>/settings)
  5. Edit General Settings and look under Analytics Scripts
  6. Find the Google Web 4 Property ID property
  7. Paste the Measurement ID provided by Google
  8. Save the changes at the bottom of the page
  9. Done! The tag should start working right away. You can check this by going to your MOBI storefront to trigger some action, and then go to the Real Time data section in GA4. You should see some activity. To review other reports, data takes ~24 hours to show, so you're best to come back tomorrow and check whether you can see any data flowing through.
