Product Images on the Storefront

MOBI storefronts are designed to improve product find-ability, reduce ordering friction, and deliver a consistent guest experience across ordering channels and great product images helps with all of that.

Recommended Product Image Size

For best results on the MOBI storefront, product images should be uploaded as:

• Ideal size: 700px x 700px
• Shape: Square
• Recommended formats: JPG, JPEG or PNG
• File size: Keep images as small as practical while maintaining quality
• Compression: We recommend running images through a compressor such as tinypng.com prior to upload. Smaller images = faster storefront.

Using 700px x 700px helps product images display clearly and consistently across mobile, desktop, app, kiosk, and table ordering experiences.

Product Image Best Practices

To achieve a consistent and professional storefront:

• Use high-quality images that clearly show the product.
• Keep the product centred with enough space around the edges.
• Use consistent lighting, angle, cropping, and background across your menu.
• Avoid blurry, dark, stretched, or heavily filtered images.
• Avoid text overlays, promotional badges, or pricing information on product images unless they are part of an approved design.
• Use images consistently across your menu, especially for key products or categories.

Recommendation: If you only have images for a small number of products, consider waiting until you have a more complete image set. A menu with consistent imagery generally provides a better customer experience. If this is not possible you can enable  placeholder images in Storefront Designer which adds your logo as a placeholder.

Using PNG Images with Transparent Backgrounds

Use a PNG file when you want the product image to have a transparent background.

Transparent PNGs are recommended when:

• The product should appear cleanly on the storefront background
• You want to avoid a visible white or coloured box behind the product
• Your brand uses cut-out product photography
• You want a clean, consistent visual style across product images

Before uploading a transparent PNG, check that:

• The background has been fully removed
• The product is centred
• There is enough padding around the product
• Edges are clean and not rough or blurry
• The image works on the background colour of your storefront 

PNG is also supported in MOBI’s documented product image requirements for relevant menu integrations.

When to Use JPG, JPEG, or PNG

Use JPG or JPEG when:

• The image is a standard product or food photo
• The background is part of the image
• You want a smaller file size

Use PNG when:

• You need a transparent background
• The product has been cut out from the background
• You need sharper edges or a cleaner design finish

Use GIF only when:

• A GIF has been specifically requested or approved
• The file is suitable for storefront use and does not distract from the ordering experience

Uploading Images in MOBI Admin

Images are uploaded into MOBI Admin and can then be selected for use on products or categories.

To upload images:

1. Log in to MOBI Admin
2. Open Website > Images
3. Select Choose Files
4. Choose the image or images from your computer
5. Select Upload Images to save them

Once uploaded, images will appear in the image library and can be selected when editing products or categories.

Important: Images must be uploaded and saved before they can be assigned to products or categories.

Adding Images to Products or Categories

Once an image has been uploaded, it can be assigned to a menu item.

To add an image to a product or category:

1. Go to Menu
2. Open the relevant menu, category, product, or modifier
3. Select the item you want to update
4. Locate the Image field
5. Choose the image from the image library
6. Save your changes

The selected image will display on the storefront where product images are enabled.

Tip: Use clear file names before uploading images. For example, classic-cheeseburger.png is easier to identify than a generic file name such as IMG_4927.png.

Product Images Not Displaying

If product images are not displaying on the storefront, check the following:

• Product images are enabled in the storefront or theme settings
• The image has been uploaded successfully
• The image has been assigned to the correct product or category
• The image file type is supported
• The image file is not too large
• The image has been saved correctly after selection

If the image has been uploaded and assigned correctly but is still not displaying, contact MOBI Support for assistance.

Aggregator Image Requirements

Aggregator platforms may have different image requirements from the MOBI storefront. If your menu images are also being used for platforms such as Uber Eats or DoorDash, check the requirements below.

Uber Eats Image Requirements

• Minimum size: 320px x 320px
• Maximum size: 1144px x 1144px
• Maximum file size: 10MB
• Accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF

DoorDash Image Requirements

• Minimum width: 1400px
• Minimum height: 800px
• Aspect ratio: 16:9, for example 1920px x 1080px
• Maximum file size: 1.91MB
• Accepted formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG

These requirements are specific to MOBI Connect onboarding for Uber Eats and DoorDash.

Important: The recommended MOBI storefront image size is 700px x 700px, but this may not meet all aggregator image requirements. Separate image versions may be required for aggregator platforms.

Image Checklist

Before uploading or supplying product images, confirm that:

• Product images are 700px x 700px where possible
• Images are under 1MB and ideally about 100-200kB 
• Images are square for MOBI storefront product use
• Products are centred and clearly visible
• Images are sharp, well-lit, and consistently styled
• Transparent-background images are saved as PNG
• File names are clear and easy to identify
• Aggregator image requirements have been checked separately
• Images have been uploaded, assigned, and saved correctly in MOBI Admin
