MOBI Service Fees

What the MOBI service fee is, how it's calculated, and where guests see it.

The MOBI service fee is a small fee added to eligible online orders placed through the MOBI platform. It helps cover the cost of running, maintaining, and improving MOBI's online ordering platform, including ongoing technology development. It's charged to the guest placing the order — it isn't part of your pricing, and it isn't retained by your business.

Who this applies to

  • Applies to eligible delivery and order-ahead (pickup) orders paid online through MOBI Payments.
  • Doesn't apply to: orders paid with cash on pickup or delivery, in-store orders (table ordering, Skip the Queue, kiosks), or orders placed through marketplace aggregators (e.g. Uber Eats, DoorDash) that are sent to your POS via MOBI.

ℹ️ The service fee is separate from any surcharge you've set up yourself. See “Add a Surcharge to Online Payments” if you're trying to work out which fee is which on an order.

How it's calculated

The fee is a small percentage of the order value, with a minimum of $0.10 and a maximum of $3.00 per order. It's shown to the guest in their cart and at checkout before they pay, and it's tax-inclusive.

Where guests see it

The service fee appears as a separate line item during checkout and on the guest's digital order confirmation from MOBI. It does not appear on the receipt printed at your store, since it isn't sent through to your point-of-sale system as part of the order.

⚠️ This can create a receipt mismatch. A guest's MOBI digital receipt (emailed) will show the service fee; the paper receipt printed at pickup or delivery won't. This is expected — if a guest asks why the totals look different, you can point them to their MOBI order confirmation for the full breakdown.

FAQs

Why is MOBI charging this fee?

It helps cover the cost of maintaining and improving the online ordering platform, and ongoing technology development. Service fees like this are common across online ordering and delivery platforms.

Who actually receives the fee — me or MOBI?

MOBI collects this fee directly from the guest. It isn't part of your pricing and doesn't affect your subscription or transaction costs.

Can I turn this fee off for my venue?

No — it's a mandatory fee and can't be waived or disabled for individual venues.

Why is the fee capped at $3, even on large orders?

The fee is calculated as a small percentage of the order, with a minimum of $0.10 and a maximum of $3.00 — the cap is there specifically so guests aren't charged more than that, however large the order.

A guest says they were charged twice — a surcharge and a service fee. Is that a mistake?

Not necessarily. If your store has its own online payment surcharge set up, that appears alongside the MOBI service fee — they're two separate, unrelated fees rather than one being duplicated. See “Add a Surcharge to Online Payments” for how surcharges work.
